OUR THEORY
We know that Latin America as a region has a big gap in social and economic opportunities between rural and urban areas. There is also a high rate of urbanization; this unprecedented shift to a highly urbanized region has differential patterns of public intervention in rural and urban settings. Thus, rural areas face severe constraints in terms of providing high quality of public services. Education has been recognized as one of the main means to leave poverty and inequality, but understanding the logic of educational process in Latin America requires thinking about the disparities between urban and rural. Therefore, the student performance in rural and urban areas measured by PISA scores in 2012 is affected by the adequacy of school educational resources.
As mentioned by this project what we try to study is a specific problem of Latin American education: the difference of opportunities between urban and rural areas. In most countries students who attend schools in urban areas tend to perform at higher levels than other students.
